Baby thanks you for your support

Thanks to many generous donations, Baby could receive the medical care she urgently needed.  She enjoyed a very happy time with her foster family, away from the shelter.  She even visited the Centre Wildlife's Wild About Animals event where she met and enjoyed so many people. Unexpectedly, Baby passed away April 22nd, 2008.  We at Pets Come First on behalf of Baby, greatly appreciate your support.

PCF UPDATES - April 14th-20th.

We will attempt to update this page to let you know what Pets Come First is doing on a weekly basis.  On Wednesday, April 16th, Cheryl Sharer, Troy Klinefelter (PSPCA manager) and I transported Sassy, an overweight beagle, to the Paw Prints Sanctuary in Shermans Dale, PA ().  It was a beautiful day and the sanctuary is amazing.  They are fostering Sassy for the PSPCA and helping her with an exercise and weight control regimen.  Sassy is available for adoption through the PSPCA - Centre Hall Adoption Center.

Paw Prints is a wonderful place, if you are in Perry County, please stop in to visit!  Their mission statement is:

To establish a loving and comfortable sanctuary:

(1) As a foster environment for the senior dogs of Central Pennsylvania rescues and shelters that are not easily integrated into the adoption process of those rescues and shelters. These senior dogs will have reached at least the age of ten years. We especially welcome senior dogs with disabilities and senior dogs experiencing medical difficulties. NOTE: Exceptions to our senior resident qualification will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

(2) To "home", for no charge, as many of the dogs belonging to overseas deployed members of the military as we can accomodate.

(3) To establish a no charge "visiting" facility for the children and at-home spouse of deployed military so they can temporarily decompress from the pressure of an absent father or mother.

Our vision is to provide peace and comfort to animals as they live out their lives naturally in an environment that is continuously staffed.

REMEMBER - if you'd like to volunteer with Pets Come First, we are always looking for people to transport dogs, staff at our table at various functions and help with fundraising.  Please contact us if you are interested in helping!  And as always, donations for medical care are always appreciated!

Thanks for reading and check back weekly to see what we're up to!

Pets Come First has chartered a Fullington bus to take a group of us to this event. The cost is $45 or $50/person which includes your entry ticket and round trip transportation. Consider the peace of mind you'll have not worrying about driving after an evening of tasting fine brews AND the current cost of gas - all for only an extra $20. That's much cheaper than a hotel room, a cab back to State College, bribing your significant other with gifts to pick your sorry butt up after the event, and doubly worth it knowing you won't be driving under the influence.
If you are interested in joining Pets Come First on this adventure, please let me know ASAP by email at . Seats are filling up fast, so get your reservation in soon! Everyone over the age of 21 is welcome (no pets allowed at the event), be sure to let your friends and family know too. If we have enough people we can upgrade to a larger bus or even charter multiple buses!

Costs will break out as the following:
Roundtrip Bus + ticket:  $45/person
Rountrip Bus + ticket + $5 donation benefiting homeless pets of Centre County: $50/person

We know times are tough with money, so we'll understand if you opt for the $45 package. However, if you don't mind parting with the extra $5, our rescue animals will definitely put it to good use!
For payment by check, you can mail checks made out to Pets Come First to:

Pets Come First, Inc.
c/o Janel Greenland
470 Millgate Rd.
Bellefonte, PA 16823

We can also accept payment via credit card through our Paypal account. However, the cost would be slightly higher to offset the % that PayPal keeps. If you are paying via PayPal, please note the following:
To make a $45 payment (with no donation to PCF), please pay $46.65
To make a $50 payment (to include a full $5 donation to PCF), please pay $51.80

If you are making a payment via PayPal, PLEASE specify in the notes section this is for the PAWRTY Bus. Otherwise we won't know if it's just a straight up donation to PCF or payment for the trip. Also, PLEASE send me an email that you paid via PayPal and include your contact information as well as the info for anyone else in your party (names, phone, email, DNA profile - ok, just kidding)

**Second, in order to get this new rate and ensure that everyone gets a ticket (in case they sell out) I needed to commit to a set number of tickets up front with payment made for those by April 15th (please see disclaimer info at bottom). Therefore, I will need your money no later than Friday, April 11th (this gives me time to deposit the funds and make the payment arrangements with my ticket supplier). I've been told we can add more people later, but the initial block will need to be reserved by April 15th.

**The Dreaded Disclaimer Information:
Seats will not be held until payment is received in full.
No cancellations. You can sell your seat to someone else, but because we aren't really making any money on this, and we are a non-profit group, we can't afford to lose the cost of anyone's reservation.

New Donation Option!

It's that time of the year where many of you think about helping the needy and also getting the benefit of some last minute tax breaks before the end of the year.  Pets Come First is pleased to announce a new donation option allowing you to donate a fixed amount on a monthly, reoccurring basis.  This kind of donation really helps to offset our monthly operating costs and builds an emergency fund to quickly react to emergency situations.

Won't you please consider a monthly reoccurring payment option?   Please check here for options.

2 (Not 3) Trimmed Down Middle-Aged Beagles need a home

UPDATE:

Suzie was adopted!  She lost roughly 20 pounds and was being fostered near Pittsburgh.  She was adopted and leads a nice life with a a large fenced in yard, a constant companion, and morning card games.  Congratulations to Suzie!

Image

Picture 3 2 fat old ladies with stubby legs and lots of fur and that's pretty much what these girls used to look like! Willow has lost considerable weight with good diets and exercise.  Piper's thyroid condition has slowed her weight loss, but she is more vigorous.  They are both detoxing with some microbacterial supplements in the hopes they will be able to get more weight off.

We rescued them from being euthanized from Stroudsburg. Since they are older and were overweight, they were not seen as adoptable. These girls are incredibly sweet and loving and full of personality, and I could not let them be put down just because they are older and "not pretty enough". They are already spayed, housebroken and up to date on all shots. Their names are Piper (brown and black, age 8) and Willow (tri colored, age 9). Piper and Willow were sisters from the same home. Their owner surrendered them to the shelter because he was moving to Florida and apparently the state of Florida doesn't allow dogs...

Image
This is Piper. She is super laid back but has bursts of energy that don't last long.  She likes to sleep.  Doesn't she remind you of the California Bear?
Image
This is Willow (next to Piper). Willow also craves attention. She was so happy to see me this morning! She loves head and eye rubs and having her belly scratched.

If you are interested in these girls, PLEASE, let me know!

Please contact me directly at , or 814-769-1981.
